Significant energy savings for Orange in Poland with a hybrid cooling solution

Orange, a global mobile service provider, wanted to save energy in their Polish operations and to kill two birds with one stone: cut costs and operate more eco-efficiently.

Delta provided a hybrid cooling solution for Orange’s telecom shelters. The solution combined air conditioning and ventilation in order to meet the following requirements:
• Reducing power consumption
• Keeping the temperature range at the desired level
• Enabling quick rollout to many locations

Delta developed an energy-saving calculation tool for Orange Poland, in addition to completing two successful pilot installations. The rollout of the turnkey deliveries started in May 2010. The project will continue for the next three years, covering about 4,000 locations in Poland.

Delta’s hybrid cooling systems allow Orange to save more than 80% in energy used to cool telecom shelters. In a shelter with 3.5 kWh heat dissipation, the system might reduce energy consumption from 11,000 to 2,000 kWh per year – nearly 82%. This translates into savings of about 800 euros per year per location. Upgrading 4,000 similar shelters will result in annual savings of 36 million kWh, 32,000 tons of CO2 emissions and more than EUR 3 million.
