Delta’s UPS backs up supercomputer in Chile

The University of Chile uses a new, powerful iDataPlex solution by IBM to secure key information used in the development of natural sciences and mathematics. The backup power solution had to be able to be scaled up as demand increases, so a modular UPS was a natural choice.

“Delta’s NH Plus was an optimal solution for us – it’s scalable, and its modularity enables us to multiply the capacity by four. This not only makes our life easier but also saves costs in the future,” said Claudius Baeza from Encargado and High Performance Computing Engineering at University of Chile. “For us, some of the additional advantages of Delta’s solution are the hot-pluggable maintenance option, and the discharge availability in services and engineering that was developed by Selecom Chile Energy, the installation and maintenance partner,” he continued.

With industry-leading energy efficiency, the NH Plus features up to six modules working parallel in one cabinet. The system provides from 20 up to 480 kVA with four parallel cabinets. Other key features include an input current THD of less than 3%, as well as battery independence and fan speed control.

“We are proud of being selected as a partner in securing such vital information and in supporting scientists’ work at the University of Chile. We at Selecom Energy, a Delta Partner in Chile, contributed with our pre-sales and post-sales knowledge in order to provide a complete turnkey solution,” says Ricardo Garrido, Director of Channels at Selecom Energy.
